Warrant Officer Prerequisites and Duty Description
 
280A – Software Operations Technician
 
Duties: 
Software Operations Technicians are experts in highly technical skillsets that focus on multiple software and platform engineering disciplines including, but not limited to, full-stack web application development, low-code app development, digital-system plug-ins, common operating picture plug-ins, and DEVSECOPS platform management.  Software Operations Technicians serve as the technical anchor to Software Teams alongside SAIO officers trained in software product management and UI/UX design. 
 
***Applicants must meet all Administrative Requirements to become a Warrant Officer***
 
Minimum Prerequisites:
  1. Any MOS/Service may apply.
  2. SGT with at least 36 months rated time (NCOERs/1059) At least one evaluation demonstrating superior leadership performance and potential. (Can be waived to 24 months if preferred requirements met)
  3. Must be fully deployable.
  4. Letter of Recommendation (LOR) from a Sr. Warrant Officer in any MOS that has worked directly with the applicant (if applicable), or Supervisor (for civilian applicants).
 5. In order to apply, applicants must have been awarded one or more of the following skill identifiers from the Army Software Factory:
(1) 5F: Software Product Manager
(2) 5G: Software Product Designer
(3) 5J: Software Development Engineer
(4) 5L: Platform Engineer
(5) 5M: Technical Mission Force Cadre

Preferred Qualifications (not limited to):
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in modern software languages and frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with commercial cloud service providers and associated upstream services
  • Demonstrated experience with modern lean and agile software teams
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement, project management, and problem decomposition
  • Demonstrated experience with modern design principles
  • First-hand knowledge of military operational problem sets
 
Note: There are no Reserve or National Guard 280A positions
