Sgt. 1st Class Juan A. Pena is an Instructor / Shooter for the Instructor Training Group with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Moore, Ga.
Pena graduated from Wheatland Union High School, CA in 2010. He served in the 75th Ranger Regiment from November 2011 until December 2024 where he completed 7 deployments and has been a member of the Army Marksmanship Unit from December 2024 to present. The following are some highlights over the course of his career.
Pena was born in Houston, Texas and was raised in Waxahachie, Texas. He joined the Army in March 2011 and completed Basic and Infantry Training at Fort Benning, GA. He then completed the Basic Airborne Course and the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, and was assigned to B Co, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in November 2011. Where he served as a Assistant Machine-Gunner, Machine-Gunner, Saw gunner, Gun Team Leader and Fire Team Leader. In December 2016 Pena was assigned to D Co, 1/75 Reconnaissance section as a Reconnaissance Team Leader. In January 2021 Pena was assigned to HHC, Ranger Special Troops Battalion where he served as an Instructor in the Regimental Marksmanship Program. In December 2024 Pena was assigned to the Instructor Training Group, USAMU.
Penas’ schools include: Infantry OSUT, Basic Airborne Course, Ranger Assessment and Selection Program, Ranger School, Basic Leader Course, Unit Armor Course, Special Operations Foreign and Non-Standard Armorers Course, Advanced Leader Course, Anti-terrorism Evasive Driving Course, Marksmanship Master Trainer Course, Common Facility Development-Instructor Course, Senior Leader Course.
His awards include One Joint Service Commendation Medal with “C” device, One Joint Service Commendation Medal, One Army Commendation Medal, One Joint Service Achievement Medal, One Army Achievement Medal and Three Army Good Conduct Medals. He has been awarded the Ranger Tab, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge and the Parachutist Badge.
