Command Sgt. Maj. Redus Thomas is a native of Toledo, Ohio. He entered the Army Reserve as a Carpentry and Masonry Specialist (51B) in March 1999 as a junior in high school under the alternate training program. He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, SC. Upon graduation he returned and finished his senior year in high school and attended Advanced Individual Training in Gulfport, MS. Thomas was assigned to the 389th Engineer Battalion in Decorah, IA, and the 983rd Engineer Battalion in Monclova, OH.

Medical Recruiting Battalion.
Thomas’ military and civilian education include the Sergeants Major Academy, Company Commander and First Sergeant Course, Guidance Counselor and Operations Course, Bystander Intervention Course, Equal Opportunity Course, and NCOES to include the Senior Leader Course, the Advanced Leader Course, and the Warrior Leader Course. He is a 2014 graduate of Tiffin University, Oh with a Masters in Criminal Justice, and he is a graduate of Ashford University with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences.
