Command Sergeant Major Davy R. Chick is a native of Newberry Springs, CA. He enlisted into the California Army National Guard in June 1995 as a metal worker. After a brief tour in the National Guard, CSM Chick enlisted into the active Army in October 1998 as a wheeled vehicle operator. He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, OK and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
His first duty assignment was with the 96th Transportation Company at Fort Hood, TX where he served as a heavy wheel vehicle driver. Chick was later assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA and was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2004 through September 2005. Chick then volunteered to return to Iraq with the 497th Transportation Company from September 2006 through June 2007 where he served as squad leader and later was assigned as the assistant truck master.
After his second deployment was completed, Chick volunteered as a detailed recruiter and was assigned to the Lacey Recruiting Station in WA State. In 2010, Chick converted his MOS to 79R and was assigned as an on-production station commander in Chehalis, WA. Chick’s next assignment was as a large station commander in Amarillo, TX. In 2014, Chick completed the Guidance Counselor and Operations Course (GCOC) and was assigned as a guidance counselor at the San Antonio Military Entrance Processing Station. After serving a year in the MEPS, Chick was moved to assist in the Battalion Operations section as an Operations NCO. He has since been assigned as the 1SG for the Cheyenne Recruiting Company in Cheyenne, WY, the Policy NCOIC at U.S. Army Recruiting Command HQ in Fort Knox, KY, and the 1SG for the Mobile Exhibit Company in Fort Knox, KY. Chick is a recent grad (Class 72) of the Sergeants Major Academy and most recently served as the Operations Sergeant Major for the Houston Recruiting Battalion in Houston, TX.
Chick’s military training includes the Sergeants Major Academy, Recruiting Company Command and First Sergeant Course, Guidance Counselor and Operations Course, Senior Leader Course (CL), Station Commanders Course, Army Recruiter Course, Advanced Leader Course (DH), and the Basic Leader Course. He currently holds a Master’s Degree in Leadership from Trident University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Post University.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 Oak Leafe Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (11), Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (8t) Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (8), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 Combat Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Glenn E. Morrell Recruiting Medallion, Gold Recruiter Ring, Gold Recruiter Badge (3 Sapphire Stars), Combat Action Badge, and Drivers Badge. Chick is a 2010 inductee in to the TRADOC Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and competed at the USAREC First Sergeant of the Year Board.
