Raleigh Recruiting Battalion Commander

Lt. Col. Ramon Ramos

Lt. Col. Ramon Ramos is the Battalion Commander for U.S Army Recruiting in North Carolina.  Ramos attended the United States Military Academy and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in May of 2005. He attended the Infantry Officers Basic Course in July of 2005 and shortly after graduated Ranger and Airborne School.  In March of 2006, he reported to A Co, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader and deployed to Iraq for 15 months from August 2006 to November 2007. In November of 2007 he was selected to serve as a Ranger Platoon Leader in 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.  While with the Rangers, he deployed three more times serving in Mosul, Iraq; Jalalabad, Afghanistan; and Khowst, Afghanistan. 

In November of 2009, Lt. Col. Ramos attended Special Forces Assessment and Selection and was selected to attend the Special Forces Qualification Course where he graduated in August of 2011. Ramos was then assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) where he served as the Detachment Commander of ODA 7215. In January of 2012, he was again deployed to Afghanistan for nine months in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM XVIII. In 2013, his ODA participated in multiple Counter Narco-Terrorism deployments while partnered with foreign Special Operations Forces in Latin America.  From December of 2013 to June 2015, he was assigned as the 7th SFG(A) Assistant Operations Officer. In June of 2016, he completed the Command General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. In July of 2016 he took command of A Co, 3rd BN, 7ths SFG(A) where he also served as the SOCFWD Commander in Central America. Upon completion of his Command, he served as the Battalion’s Executive Officer. Following his time at 7th SFG(A) he served on the Joint Staff J37, Deputy Directorate for Special Operations and Counterterrorism until May of 2020. Ramos then deployed to Afghanistan for one year to serve as the Executive Officer to the Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan Commanding General. Following this deployment, he is served as the Army G3 Special Operations Directorate Operations, Trainings, and Policy Branch Chief in the Pentagon.

 Lt. Col. Ramos’ military schooling includes the United States Military Academy, Infantry Officers Basic Course, Maneuver Captains Career Course, Detachment Commanders Course, Joint Warfare Staff College, Air Assault School, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Ranger School, Special Forces Qualification Course, Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape Course, Special Forces Advanced Urban Combat Course, and the Combat Diver Qualification Course. 

 Lt. Col. Ramos’ awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medal (OLC), Meritorious Unit Citation, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO ISAF Medal, the Army Service Medal, the Air Assault Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, British Parachutist Badge, Brazilian Parachutist Badge, Colombian Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Combat Diver Badge, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantrymen's Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Special Forces Tab.
