Sgt. 1st Class George K. Norton, Accessions NCOIC and former member of the International Rifle Team with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Benning, Georgia, has distinguished himself through his many accomplishments.
A Spring, Texas, resident, Norton calls Salina, Kansas, home. He graduated from St. John’s Military School in Salina, Kansas in 2002. He studied secondary education and graphic design at the University of Missouri in Kansas City while shooting for the NCAA Division 1 Rifle Team. Since his enlistment, he has earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing Analytics and is currently pursuing a Master of Business with an emphasis in Sports and Athletic Team Management.
Norton started shooting in 1999, has numerous marksmanship accomplishments. The following are some highlights over the course of his career.
Norton enlisted in the Army Jan.12, 2005. After he completed Basic and Infantry Training at Fort Benning, he was assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit in August 2005. While operating as an Instructor/Shooter for the International Rifle Team, he has also served as an information management specialist, volunteered at the Fort Benning Tax Center, Voting Assistance Officer from 2007 to 2014, the NCOIC of the Fort Benning Junior Rifle Club. In 2010, Norton deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to train Afghanistan National Army and NATO Soldiers in marksmanship.
Norton graduated from Warrior Leaders Course (2008); Combat Life Saver (2010); Ranger First Responder (2010); NRA Level 1 Coaching Course (2010) Part 1 ALC (2012) Part 2 ALC (2014) SLC (2018).
His awards include a Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Five Army Commendation Medals, Five Army Achievement Medals, Five Good Conduct Medals, Afghan Campaign Medal, NATO Commendation Medal, Volunteer Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the International Distinguished Marksmanship Badge. He was named the USAMU NCO of the Year 2011, Accessions Support Brigade NCO of the Quarter 1st Quarter FY13, and USAMU NCO of the Quarter 2nd Quarter FY17. Multiple Appointments to the American Military University Dean’s List.
