Sgt. Shane Butler was born in Louisville, Ky. He graduated from Scott County High School in 2009. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 2012 and completed Basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation he was assigned to the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in Twentynine Palms, Ca. He went on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit deployment to Japan. He completed two deployments with 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines to Japan, Korea, Thailand, and the Philippines. He joined the Marine Corps Shooting Team in 2019 then joined the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Service Rifle Team in January 2022 as a shooter/instructor.
Butler's achievements include earing his Distinguished Rifleman badge in 2019 and the Presidents Hundred tab in 2022. Firing member for the winning 2022 Interservice 10 man, and Infantry trophy team match. Sergeant Butler was also a firing member of the winning CMP 6 man team match.
His military training includes School Of Infantry (2013); Small Unit leaders Course (2014); Machine Gunners Course (2014); Corporals Course (2014); Combat Lifesaver Course, (2016); Sergeants Course (2016)
Butler’s awards include the Good Conduct Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Distinguished Marksmanship Badge.
