Sgt. 1st Class Evan Hess was born in Mount Pleasant, Texas. He graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 2004 before receiving an associate degree in Business in 2006 from Northeast Texas Community College. Hess enlisted in the Army in Oct. 2006 and shipped to Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC and then went to Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD where he completed his Advanced Individual Training as a Small Arms/ Artillery Repairer.
He was assigned to the U.S Army Marksmanship Service Rifle team April, 2007. In 2010 Hess transitioned to the Custom Firearms Shop where he served as a gunsmith and Shop NCOIC, in October 2016 he returned to the Service Rifle Team where he served as a shooter/ instructor and Team Chief. Hess transitioned back to the Custom Firearms Shop again in 2020 where he is currently serving as the Shop NCOIC.
Hess has graduated from Combat Lifesaver Course, Fort Benning, GA (2007); Army Basic Instructor Course, Fort Benning, GA (2007); Warrior Leaders Course, Fort Benning, GA (2010); Comprehensive Soldier Fitness, Fort Benning, GA (2011); Advanced Leaders Course, Fort Lee, VA; Air Assault School, Fort Benning, GA (2013); Airborne School, Fort Benning, GA (2014); Senior Leaders Course, Fort Lee, VA (2014).
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Developmental Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, NATO ISAF Ribbon, Army Superior Unit Award, Gold German Schützenschnur Marksmanship Badge, Bronze Pistol Excellence in Competition Badge, President’s Hundred Tab, Distinguished Rifleman Badge, Basic Airborne Badge and Air Assault Badge.
