U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Action Shooting Team

Staff Sgt. Jacob R. Hetherington

Staff Sgt. Jacob Robert Hetherington was born and raised in Prescott, Arizona. He has been shooting competitively since he was 10 years old. Hetherington was recruited by the Action Shooting team of the United States Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) after graduating from Prescott High School in 2015.

He joined the Army in July 2015, and shipped to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for One Station Unit Training (OSUT) to become a 12B (Combat Engineer). He became the Honor Graduate of his class. After graduating, Hetherington reported to the USAMU at Fort Benning, Georgia.  In 2020, Hetherington attended 3rd SF Group SFSIC Level 2 course, where he graduated as the Top Shot. Since his assignment to the Action Shooting team, he has already established himself as a distinguished shooter and experienced instructor.  

 Hetherington’s awards include the Army Accommodation Medal, Army Achievement Medalx5, Army Good Conduct Medalx2, Army Service Ribbon, Bronze EIC medal, Gold German Military Proficiency Badge, and National Defense Service Ribbon.
