Sgt. 1st Class Henry "Hank" Gray was raised in Belgrade, Montana, and graduated from Belgrade High School as salutatorian in 1997.
In 2003, he joined the Army a year and a half after earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After he completed Basic and Infantry Training at Fort Benning, Georgia he was assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) on December 8, 2003. During his time with the USAMU, Gray has competed with both the running target and international rifle teams along with working at headquarters in the S-3 (Operations). He currently serves as the Assistant Team Chief and Assistant Coach for the International Rifle team.
In 2010, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom conducting marksmanship training operations with the Afghan National
Army and NATO forces. Gray earned a Master of Science degree in sport and exercise science from the American Military University in 2015.
Gray’s military schools include: Commandant’s List, Warrior Leaders Course (2006); Advanced Leaders Course (2008); Commandant’s List, Senior Leaders Course (2014); Modern Army Combatives Course, Level I (2008); Combat Lifesaver Course (2020); Leader Comprehensive Fitness Course (2012); and Army Basic Instructor Course (2013).
