3rd Medical Recruiting Battalion Commander

Lt. Col. Valerie S. Bartonico

Lt. Col. Valerie S. Bartonico was commissioned as a Medical Service Corps Officer from the University of Guam in 2005. She is a graduate of the AMEDD Officer Basic Course, AMEDD Captain’s Career Course, and Army Command and General Staff College. 

Bartonico started her career in 2006 with the 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey Korea as the Brigade Medical Supply Officer, 302nd Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team. In 2007, she was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia where she served in multiple positions such as Company Commander, Battalion S-1, and Company Executive Officer, and served a 15-month operational deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom V with the 26th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Following designation as a 70F Health Services Human Resources Manager in 2011, Bartonico was assigned as the Chief of Human Resources, Warrior Transition Battalion, Fort Gordon, Georgia. After attending the AMEDD Captain’s Career Course in 2013, Bartonico was assigned as a Medical Service Corps Assignment Officer, Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky. Following Command and General Staff College in 2017, she served as the Chief of Human Resources at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. In 2020, Bartonico was assigned to the United States Army Recruiting Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky, as the Deputy Director, Health Services Directorate, and then transitioned in 2022 as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Headquarters, United States Army Recruiting Command. Her last previous assignment was the Deputy Branch Chief, Dental Corps Branch, Health Services Division, Talent Alignment and Development Directorate, United States Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Bartonico’s awards and decorations are commensurate with her grade and experience, and she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Guam and a master’s degree in human resources management from Webster University.
