Command Sgt. Maj. Brian Filipowski entered the U.S. Army September 14, 2004. He attended Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he earned the primary MOS of 11B. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Bravo Co. 1/12 INF Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. In December 2005, he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While assigned to the 4th infantry Division, Filipowski held the duty positions of Anti-Armor Specialist, Bradley Gunner, and Dismount Team Leader. After his deployment, 2007, Filipowski was selected for Recruiting duty. As a Recruiter, he was assigned to the Rancho Cordova Recruiting Station of the Capitol Recruiting Company, where he served as a detailed Recruiter and Assistant Station Commander. While serving as a detailed Recruiter, he was awarded Company Top New Recruiter in 2008 and Top Recruiter in 2009. He fell in love with recruiting and, in 2010, decided to reclassify his permanent MOS to 79R.
After his reclassification to 79R, Filipowski served as a Station Commander for the Folsom Recruiting Station of the Capitol Recruiting Company and the Winchester Recruiting Station of the Frederick Recruiting Company. In 2015, Filipowski was selected to become the AMEDD Station Commander of the Dallas Medical Recruiting Station of the San Antonio Medical Recruiting Company. He was awarded Station Commander of the Year by the 5th Medical Recruiting Battalion for fiscal year 2016. He served two years there before being selected for promotion to master sergeant by the Department of the Army. In November 2017, Filipowski assumed responsibility of the Houston Medical Recruiting Company of the 5th Medical Recruiting Battalion, where he served until February 2020. He was awarded First Sergeant of the Year by the Medical Recruiting Brigade for fiscal year 2019. On March 6, 2020, he assumed responsibility for the San Antonio Medical Recruiting Company, where he served as the Company First Sergeant until June 2021. In fiscal year 2020, he was awarded the First Sergeant of the Year for the United States Army Recruiting Command. Upon completion of his two tours as First Sergeant, Filipowski was selected to attend the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas. He graduated the Sergeants Major Academy, Class 72, with Commandant’s List honors in June 2022. After graduation, CSM Filipowski was assigned as the New York City Recruiting Battalion Operations Sergeant Major where he served until June 2023.
Filipowski’s military education includes the Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Recruiting Company Commander and First Sergeant Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Army Recruiter Course, Station Commander Course, Health Care Recruiter Course, Unit Prevention Leaders Course, and Equal Opportunity Leaders Course. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (five oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (one oak leaf cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (5th Award), Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Filipowski completed his bachelor’s degree from Post University with a major in Business Administration. He has earned the Army Gold Recruiter Badge, the Army Recruiting Ring, and the Glen E. Morrell Award.
