Mountain West Battalion Command Sergeant Major

Command Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Callaghan

Command Sergeant Major Kenneth Callaghan entered the United States Army in July 2003 out of Orlando, Florida. He completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he qualified as a 36B Financial Management Technician. He currently serves as the Command Sergeant Major for the Mountain West Recruiting Battalion.

Throughout his career, CSM Callaghan has served in a diverse range of financial management and recruiting leadership positions. His early assignments include serving with the 267th Finance Detachment at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He then transitioned into the U.S. Army Recruiting Command, where he served as a Recruiting NCO, Deputy Station Commander, and Station Commander for the Tampa Army Recruiting Battalion, followed by an assignment as a Center Commander for the Dallas Army Recruiting Battalion.

CSM Callaghan later joined the New York City Army Recruiting Battalion, serving as a Guidance Counselor, Operations NCO, and Company First Sergeant. He then transitioned to the Salt Lake City Army Recruiting Battalion as the Operations Sergeant Major. Following this tour, he was assigned to the Noncommissioned Officer Leadership Center of Excellence to attend the Sergeants Major Course, later serving as the Operations Sergeant Major for the Northern California Recruiting Battalion.

CSM Callaghan is a graduate of all levels of Professional Military Education, including the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 72). His civilian education includes an Associate’s Degree in General Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies, both from Columbia College, as well as a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Waldorf University.

CSM Callaghan’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (with 2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (with 1 Silver Leaf Cluster), the Good Conduct Medal (with 2 Silver Knots), the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Ribbon. He is also a recipient of the Gold Recruiter Badge (with 3 Sapphire Stars), the Gold Recruiter Ring, and the Glen E. Morrell Medallion for Recruiting Excellence.

He is married and has two sons.
