1st Recruiting Brigade Commander

Col. Patrick A. Douglas

Colonel (COL) Patrick A. Douglas is a graduate of Western Maryland College class of 1999, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science.

He was initially assigned as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Mortar Platoon Leader, and Company Executive Officer with the 3rd Battalion, 7thInfantry Regiment, Fort Stewart, GA. He deployed to Kosovo and later to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

After attending the Infantry Captain’s Career Course, COL Douglas was assigned to 1st Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division as Assistant S3. In 2005 COL Douglas assumed command of A Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment. Following command, he was selected to serve as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General 2nd Infantry Division.

COL Douglas was then assigned to the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, LA as a maneuver staff trainer and later as the Operations Officer of the live-fire division. In January 2009, COL Douglas was assigned as a Military Transition Team Chief in southern Iraq.

In May 2010, COL Douglas was reassigned to 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division as the Operations Officer for 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment in Di’waniya and Najaf Provinces, Southern Iraq. Following redeployment, he was later assigned as the Executive Officer and deployed the battalion to Kuwait in support of Operation Spartan Shield. He was later assigned to the Joint IED Defeat Organization as the Strategy and Policy Branch Chief, where he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

COL Douglas commanded the 2nd Battalion, 8th U.S. Cavalry in the 1st Cavalry Division from 2015-2017. Following command, COL Douglas was assigned to the U.S. Army Cyber Command, where he served as the Chief of Operations from Sep 2017 to Jul 2018.

COL Douglas was later assigned to the JCS, J-5, where he served as the Security Cooperation Strategy Division Chief from Jul 2019 to Jul 2021. COL Douglas was then assigned to the Office of Security Cooperation – Iraq, where he served as the Senior Advisor to the Kurdistan Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.

COL Douglas most recently Commanded the 197th Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning, Georgia from July 2022 to July 2024.

His awards include the Bronze Star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Master Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.

COL Douglas holds an MS in Management from the University of MD University College and an MS in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University.
