Staff Sgt. Mark Staffen was born in Lewis Center, Ohio. He graduated from Olentangy High School in 2010 and attended Columbus State Community College
in Columbus, Ohio.
Staffen was introduced to shooting by his father Joe, started shooting at the age of 10 and competed in his first shotgun match at 19 in
Texas. He won the Zone Three Championship in skeet in 2012 as well as the Ohio State International Championship that same year. In 2015 he won
the Delta shoot-out and placed second at the Gainesville skeet match. In 2016 he won the delta shootout and part II of the Olympic Trials Spring
Selection.
Staffen joined the Army in January 2013. He shipped to Infantry One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and after completion of initial
training in May 2013, Staffen was assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and the Shotgun team. Staffen currently serves as Accessions NCOIC and former member of the Shotgun Team with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Moore, Georgia
Staffen has completed airborne and air assault school, Basic leader course and advanced leaders course while he’s been at USAMU.
His awards includes three Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Airborne Badge, Air Assault Badge, German Armed Forces Badge and the Army Good Conduct Medal.
