LTC Klein was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Western Pennsylvania. He commissioned as a Transportation Officer upon graduating from Michigan State University in 2007. After completing the Transportation Officer Basic Course, he was assigned to the 426th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. There, he served as a distribution platoon leader during Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09 and later as Assistant Battalion S3 during Operation Enduring Freedom 10-11.
Following his deployment, LTC Klein attended the Combined Logistics Captain’s Career Course at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, graduating 3rd in his class of 130. He then commanded Charlie Company, 58th Transportation Battalion, 3rd Chemical Brigade at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before serving as an Instructor at the United States Military Academy at West Point from 2014–2018.
LTC Klein completed the Army’s Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth in 2019 and was assigned as Deputy G4 for the 82nd Airborne Division, deploying in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. He then served as the Brigade S4 and Brigade Support Operations Officer for 2nd BCT, 82nd Airborne Division, deploying again to Erbil, Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
In 2022, LTC Klein was selected for a Joint Duty Assignment at USTRANSCOM, serving as Executive Officer to RADM Phillip Sobeck (USN) and BG Cassius Bentley III (USAF), and later as the Command’s Experimentation Lead Action Officer in the Experimentation and Wargames Branch within the Command Strategy Division.
LTC Klein is married to the former Laura Lombardi of Canterbury, Connecticut. They have two children, Jensen (6) and Lilah (3). He has completed numerous military courses, including the fabled Sabulaski Air Assault School, United States Army Airborne School, United States Army Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Course, Master Resiliency Training, and the Support Operations Course.
