Command Sgt. Maj. Jonathan D. Cargile, best known to his Family and friends as Dwight, is from Charleston, South Carolina. He enlisted into the United States Army July 2000 and completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He first served as an MLRS driver in A 1/38th Field Artillery at Camp Stanley, South Korea. Following this assignment, he served as an ammunitions section chief, MLRS Gunner, Section Chief, and Platoon Sergeant in 3- 13 FA, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He deployed to Iraq with his platoon for 12 months, where he was attached to 18th Airborne Corp Artillery, the 3rd Infantry Division, and the 2nd Marine Division Expeditionary Force. Upon returning from deployment, he traveled to various units scheduled for deployment and provided training on the Guided MLRS munitions and M270A1/HIMARS vehicles.
Cargile was assigned to the Great Lakes Recruiting Battalion, Mount Clemens Recruiting Company in 2007. He served as a detailed recruiter, Team Leader under Small Unit Recruiting, and Large Station Commander while in the Mount Clemens Recruiting Company. In 2012, he was assigned to the Tampa Recruiting Battalion, Saint Petersburg Company as a Large Center Leader and later as the First Sergeant. In 2014, he was assigned as the Tampa Company First Sergeant. In 2015,
Cargile assumed responsibility as the Charlotte Recruiting Company First Sergeant. Following the completion of his First Sergeant duties, he served as the 5th Recruiting Brigade Senior Master Trainer at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. In 2018, Dwight attended the United Stated Army Sergeant’s Major Academy (Class 70) at Fort Bliss, Texas with a follow-on assignment as the Battalion Operations Sergeant Major in Syracuse, New York. He now lives in Tampa, Florida and is the incumbent Tampa Battalion Command Sergeant Major. His military education includes all levels of the Non-commissioned Officer Professional Education System, Unit Prevention Leader, HIMARS Launcher Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Modern Army Combative Course (Level 1 and 2), Army Recruiter Course, Station Commander Course, Recruiting Company Commander and First Sergeant Course, and the Army and Recruiting Command Pre-Command Courses. His military Awards include: Meritorious Service Medals, Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Combat Action Badge, Gold Recruiter Badge with three sapphires, the Recruiter Ring of Excellence, the Glen E. Morrell Award, and the Recruiting Excellence Medallion. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Art Degree in Leadership and Workforce Development through the Army Command and General Staff College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Studies through Purdue University (Suma Cum Laude), a master's in business administration from Webster University (with Honors), and a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma.
