Trailblazer 6 Command Philosophy

“One of the strengths of our Army is the unique ability of our Soldiers to rise to the occasion and get the job done, no matter what the adversities or the situation, in war and peace.” ~ SMA Julius W. Gates, USA (R)

1. The purpose of our organization:  Recruit the Strength of our Army. Make no mistake: we’re the Front End Readiness Team for the Army.  We must succeed in this exceptionally important mission because what we do, or fail to do, will impact the security and livelihood of many generations of Americans.  We must bring the right message to the right people at the right time to support the U.S. Army’s ability to WIN.

2. What you can expect from me: Continual engagement and a commitment to provide the purpose, direction, and motivation to guide the team in accomplishing the mission, taking care of people, and improving the organization. To act in accordance with the Army Values and the personal values that have shaped everything I do:  Legacy, Loyalty. Family, Fitness, and Fun.  To value the principles of mission command by giving you the time, space, and intent required to achieve success at your level.  Finally, I will always coach/teach/mentor you to undertake self-development and execute the individual initiative to drive the mission forward.

3. What I expect from you: We have one of the most senior organizations in the U.S. Army, because we’ve been entrusted to find the next great leaders for the Army team.  Given this purpose and your experience level, you must demonstrate outstanding maturity and consistent individual effort that is guided by accountability and compassion at every level.  Build and be a part of a winning team because getting results matters in this all-important mission. (This isn’t a “what have you done for me today” culture; it’s an “every day your efforts matter” culture.)  Demonstrate the 5 'Cs' of leadership: commitment, character, compassion, competence, and confidence.  In order for everyone to do their job well, you must recognize and fix gaps in recruiting knowledge, skills, and abilities in yourself and your teammates. This is a tough business—have thick skin and don’t get hurt feelings if you’re asked to fix a problem.  Similarly, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it, and to think before you act. There are effects at every level when you’re not at your peak performance or make an uninformed decision.  Finally, have fun with this great responsibility.  Your time in position will go by quickly and I don’t want you to look back with regret because you didn’t accept the mission wholeheartedly and embrace the people on your team.

4. End state:  The Trailblazer Battalion meets our yearly recruiting mission to provide for the Strength of the U.S. Army while simultaneously taking care of our Family and improving the organization.

Welcome to the Seattle Recruiting Battalion

Welcome to the Seattle Recruiting Battalion! The Seattle Battalion covers a large geographic area in both the states of Washington and Alaska. Even though there are major installations in the Battalion area, most of the recruiting stations are geographically disbursed from military installations. In most cases, it will be in your best interest to live within the recruiting area to which you are being assigned. With the work hours in recruiting, travel time to and from work should be limited to the least amount possible to provide more quality time spent with your Family. For information regarding the Government Leased Housing Program, contact the Facilities Manager at (206) 764-6973 or by e-mailing Bill Snyder

You will be assigned a sponsor and receive a welcome packet from the Battalion. This packet will provide you more information on your assignment and the area to which you are being assigned. For further information, contact the Battalion S-1 at (206) 764-3752 or you can e-mail by clicking here.

If you have Family members, it is best that they report with you to the Battalion Headquarters located at 4735 East Marginal Way S, Seattle, WA 98134. They will be briefed on all aspects of medical and dental plans and coverage. For information on all aspects of Soldier and Family Assistance, contact Kelly Parsons, Seattle Battalion Soldier and Family Assistance Program Manager at 206-764-6743 or Click Here.

If you don't hear from your sponsor or would like more information, please contact the Battalion S-1 at usarmy.knox.usarec.list.6lbn-s1@mail.mil.

Again, Welcome to the Seattle Battalion. Trailblazers!
